HINTS FOR EXPERT PACKING OF YOUR ROOF BOX

  1. Ensure that the roof box is secure. This is kind of obvious in that you do not want your precious belongings flying off the roof whilst you are on the M5 on your way to Cornwall. The roof bars that fit across the vehicle must be properly secured to the vehicle and checked and double/triple checked that they are secure. The great thing though about using West Midlands Roof Box Hire is that we professionally fit all the equipment, and just in case we also have £2Million public liability insurance if ever any issues were caused by the equipment…not that we ever have used it or intend to use it. Once the equipment is fitted we will also walk around it with you and show you how to operate the roof box for full peace of mind.
  2. Know the Weight limits. All different roof boxes have their own weight limit which is a maximum weight that the box will carry. The weights can vary but generally the roof boxes will carry between 50KG – 75KG. This is A LOT of weight and you would really struglle to get this sort of weight into a roof box, but it is still good to know these limits. During the fitting of the equipment the limits will also be pointed out to you for added peace of mind.
  3. Try and pack the heavier items in the car if possible. This is not always possible, and indeed we have a lot of people who put heavy items such as pushchairs/prams, camping equipment, and even wheelchairs inside the roof box. However, it is always best if possible to try and put the heavier/more bulky items in the car if possible, leaving all that roof box room for smaller things like suitcases, clothing, toys, food, rucksacks, shoes…. the list goes on.
  4. Store your cases up top. Suitcases and large bags should not be assumed to have to go into the car boot, especially if you have one of our roof boxes on the top of your vehicle ! Maybe imagine the roof box as a large suitcase designed to hold a few smaller cases. We have a video on our website that shows one of our roof boxes which has a few suitcases inside it, and also just how much extra belongings you can still place around the cases.
  5. Have your roof box fitted the day before you travel. Most of our customers find that by having the roof box fitted the day before their holiday, it substantially reduces any stress around driving for a few hours to your destination as you do not have to have the added worry of finding time to have your roof box fitted on the day of your holiday. Also as we have many customers coming to us from throughout Birmingham and the whole of The West Midlands, the extra day allows more time to spend packing and working out just how much you can fit inside our roof boxes.
